Broken tool, broken heart. Blessing in disguise?

I have been feeling melancholic since the other day because my stand mixer broke. What is a ‘baker’ without one of his key tools?

I remember nearly a year ago when I was in a serious decision-making process of whether to get a stand mixer or not. It was a long and challenging process because of cost, space, and ‘need-versus-want’ considerations. Then I finally had it and I was overjoyed! And not only me but also my boys for that matter.

I admittedly cannot manually knead well and I hate the feeling of sticky dough on my hands — ironic, is it not? That is why this tool has been a big help in my baking journey; the same reason why I was saddened by its seemingly untimely breakdown. I just hope that it can be repaired soon despite the challenges of either sending it to the repair shop or having it home-serviced which are both not easy these days because of the pandemic.

One thing to be happy about, however, is that the temporary rest of my stand mixer might push me to work on my dough kneading prowess. Meantime, I also have to put off some of my cheesecake taste test commitments to some friends and family until my tool gets fixed. I am sorry about that but I definitely need to improve on my current whisking skill, too.

Broken tool, broken heart — a blessing in disguise? Well, I would rather choose to look at the brighter side. πŸ˜€

I have a suggestion for you… Have a cheaper back up stand mixer! KitchenAid of course is supposed to be known for it’s durability. It’s ‘ttier and tested’ by many… Pero the downside is, if they do break down, they do cost a bit to repair.

When i was looking for a stand mixer, I thought should I go for KitchenAid or not? Am i gonna use it enough to warrant the price?

At that point in time, the answer was NO. So i bought a ‘cheap’ stand mixer from AMAZON…

To my surprise, the stand mixer i bought was sooooo good that I ended up using it 200-300% more than I initially intended!! πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Haha

I tried my sister-in-law’s KitchenAid for comparison, and I really can’t find any difference, as a matter of fact, my one seemed better. 😁

Anyway, your issue is not about whether to get a KitchenAid or not, because you already have one.

I guess what I’m trying to say is… if baking is your passion and you are reliant on your tools, you need to have back up tools!! And the back up tool; in this case a back up stand mixer, doesn’t have to be a KitchenAid again… You might be surprised of the quality of some of the generic branded stand mixers!!

    Good luck! 😊😊😊

Reading your comment made me want to go back in time and be ‘wiser’. Haha! πŸ˜… I also remember gifting my Mom a much cheaper stand mixer years back and hers is still working until now. πŸ˜†

I couldn’t agree more. I should really have a backup mixer. Should I try my luck at Lazada 2-2 this time? Haha! πŸ˜…

Thank you very much for the advice, Chef Kuya Erwin! I really appreciate it. I wish we were neighbors, too. πŸ˜†

Glad that this broken tool and the broken heart πŸ’– were already fixed, and to be one of the recipients for the β€œcheesecake taste test”. The cheesecake was really really very good. Please start selling it already so we can place our order!
