Baklava: A lovely, nutty favorite!

I first learned about baklava from a TV series my husband and I watched on Netflix. It’s one of the favorite delicacies of the well traveled lead actor in the series. I got curious with how it’s made but didn’t put much thought about baking one myself until I saw one being sold at a Mediterranean restaurant near my workplace. I tried and it’s good yet a bit pricey.

Not long after, I searched for a recipe online and tried baking baklava. The recipe was simple and easy to follow. As a first-timer, I decided that using one to two types of nuts is safe. Thus, I chose pistachio and walnut. It turned out not bad as the kiddo who isn’t fond of nuts loved it a lot. He just thought that my baklava looked more like spring rolls!

Because of the kiddo’s comment, I looked for a recipe that makes use of the layered technique. This time I added cranberry and orange zest. While the looks was much better than the first, cutting was a challenge as I forgot to slice the layered pastry before baking. Nonetheless, it’s still a hit to my favorite customers at home.

I baked another cranberry orange baklava today as I wanted my mother-in-law to try it. As usual, the kiddo was excited also. This time, I already sliced the pastry dough before baking and, truly, this method made cutting and serving a lot easier.

As everyone at home seems to like baklava, I guess it’s more likely to become another kitchen regular. And as a personal preference, pairing it with a warm cup of tea makes it more lovely! ❤️
